Breaking ground in early April of 2019, this $19 million development will feature 87 high-end apartments and townhomes when finished. At about 19 acres, the former church site on the east side of Grand Rapids was one of the largest parcels of land left to develop in the city.
One challenge Thornapple Excavating faced on the project was peat removal below building footprints and the road. The peat existed more than 20 feet below the surface in many areas, and it had to be removed and replaced with Class II sand or other structural fill.
